2010 New York State Codes – Significant Changes

The new 2010 New York State Codes became effective December 28, 2010. This in-depth program will cover the significant changes from the 2007 to the 2010 New York State family of codes. The Building Code of NYS will be a substantial portion of the focus, but the Existing Building, Fire, Residential, Energy, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fuel Gas Codes will also be covered in this session.

A sampling of the changes by code documents are:

  • Building Code - Special uses, mixed occupancies, building areas, mezzanines, fire resistance & protections, means of egress & accessibility, and structural provisions
  • Existing Building Code – Definitions, new performance chapter, and miscellaneous changes
  • Fire Code – Definitions, maintenance, and summary of hazardous materials changes
  • Energy Code – ASHRAE 09.1-2007 discussion and summary of changes
  • Mechanical, Plumbing & Fuel Gas Codes – Summary of significant changes
  • Residential Code – Exterior walls and opening protection, summary of construction/structural changes, and summary of mechanical, plumbing, electrical changes

Attendees will leave this session with a thorough understanding of the significant code changes in the 2010 edition of the NYS Codes so that they may apply these changes to current and future designs.

Laura M. Cooney, AIA

Laura M. Cooney, AIA has over 15 years of combined experience in architecture, project management, and code training. Her architectural experience consists mainly of health care and commercial facilities and residential projects. While she still practices architecture, her main focus is now code compliance and training.

Ms. Cooney is founder and president of LMC Codes in Webster, New York which provides code consulting services to architects, engineers, municipalities, and building owners throughout New York State. She is a NYS registered architect, NYS Certified Code Enforcement Official, an AIA Rochester past president, and a member of the national AIA Codes and Standards Committee.

As a Building codes trainer, she has successfully developed and presented many training programs for design professionals, facility personnel, contractors and owners. She has also developed several custom courses for individual firms and organizations around the state.

Programs are 8:30am to 4:00pm and include lunch.

NOTE: Ensuring Compliance with the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design and Applicable Building Codes will run until 5:00pm.

    2012 Spring Sessions:

  • $235 per person per program before September 15th.
  • $285 per person per program after September 15th.
